Star Swap

In May I talked about setting up a star themed swap, and well, I decided since it was officially summer it was time to take a break from stash busting and organizing to have a little fun, and a swap seemed the perfect option. I wanted to do a star theme for a lot of different reasons. First, it goes with Christmas in July (for those who celebrate and enjoy a mid-year start to holiday crafting). Second, with the northern lights, planetary alignment and more this year something celestial seemed appropriate (and stars are easier to work with than planets, comets, etc). And third, a star theme can be interpreted in so many different ways! This was what probably got me the most- you could use fabric with stars on it, make a mini quilt or pillow with star blocks, incorporate a star block into a bag, or so many other things.

Now that your mind is thinking about different creative ideas, let’s get down to the details, and some questions I know you are going to have:

Is this going to be a blind swap?

No, you will receive a partner and be exchanging with each other so if you will have the chance to ask each other questions and get to know one another.

We aren’t swapping a particular item, so how do we know what to make?

You will discuss this with your partner, but I am asking that you plan on using/swapping the equivalent of 4 FQs, (below are some ideas for different projects).

You mentioned Christmas in July, would something holiday themed be okay?

When you sign up you will be asked if you would like to do something holiday themed, and I will work to pair those who answer yes to that question together. If you and your partner both want to do something holiday themed then go for it!

Is this swap open to international participants?

Yes, this swap will be open to international participants. I will be working to pair people within the same country/region to reduce shipping costs but can not guarantee this for anyone outside  the United States.

Will there be any giveaways?

Yes! There will be 3 giveaways during the swap. The first for sign ups, the second for posting a preview of your project (and you can get a bonus entry for this one!) and the third for mailing your item to your swap partner. More information will be provided after you sign up. You will need to have a public account on Instagram to participate in the giveaways.

Next up, what is the schedule?

Now through July 6 - Sign ups

July 8- Receive your partner’s information

By July 15- Post fabric selection

By July 22- Post a preview of the project

By August 3- Mail swap item

By August 20- Post picture of the item that you received (hopefully everyone will have received their item by this time)

If for some reason you lose the link to the sign up form (it happens) you can also find it here.

I can’t wait to see how you interpret the star theme for this swap!

And as always, if you have any questions please reach out to me. Happy sewing!
