Spring Quilting
My second ambassador project for Benartex fabrics is all about spring flowers and creating the perfect project to brighten those rainy April days. Rather appropriately, the fabric collection I choose to use is called “April’s Garden.” It is designed by well known Canadian clothing and home goods designer, April Cornell.
I have always loved the clothing April Cornell designs, it blends the best of boho and cottagecore (I still have a few pieces in my closet). But having known the style for two decades I wanted to make sure that whatever I created would fit well into the vibe. I went through a variety of ideas including several different skirts (I still think a circle skirt from one of the wide backs would be fantastic), a few different quilt designs, and even a bag or two. But I discarded the skirts because my garment making skills are still a work in progress, the quilt designs while very much my style but didn’t have the right vibe for the collection, and the bag, well that one stuck around for awhile, but in the end something new came forward. The more I looked at the different prints in the collection the more I was reminded of some of my favorite table linens, and from there the inspiration came for a table runner.
The Spring Runner is a simple easy to make runner that beautifully showcases the main floral print in the collection. I love how it brings a bit of the garden indoors and brightens a room regardless of the weather outside and is large enough to act as a table or bed runner (because let’s face it dining room tables are becoming less and less common). In honor of the collection’s release and the arrival of spring I am making the pattern for the runner available to all of my email subscribers, as a special treat. If you haven’t subscribed yet you can do that by signing up here. There are also a range of different color options to choose from.
I went with pink just because it went beautifully with my new comforter but there are also lovely options in yellow and blue, so something to suit every mood. I look forward to seeing what all of you make and how you embrace spring quilting this year!
