Christmas in July:Our Favorite… almost… holiday
Guest Post by Leslie and Josie of Hidden Stitches
Christmas in July is a favorite not quite holiday. For many of us, Christmas in July is hot… really hot. Not exactly quilt weather… or is it?
10 Things our friends do with quilts in summer:
Jan hangs quilts on the wall (they are art).
Carol uses them as tablecloths (they’re washable).
You can take a quilt to the beach (far more comfortable than a big towel… and it’s washable).
Hang it on a clothesline (and make your neighbors wonder if your dryer is broken).
Leslie will take one for her nieces and nephews to sit on at an outdoor theater, firework display, or community festival.
You can and should take it to ‘show and tell’ at your guild.
Try tossing one on your car seats when your car is parked outside to help beat the heat of the sun – especially on an infant seat.
Older folks are cold all the time. Consider giving an extra quilt to someone who’s homebound – they’ll love you forever.
Josie just puts them aside to start another project (perhaps a tote).
Get a jump on your Thanksgiving and Christmas/Hanukkah themed quilts – the holidays will be here before you know it!
To celebrate the almost holiday season, visit www.hiddenstitches.com, sign up for our Hidden Stitches Quilt Club, and get a free simple tote pattern that will allow you to turn any block into a tote to carry your quilt to the table, beach or guild. Then grab family and friends and celebrate.
Christmas in July wouldn’t be complete without Quilting Carols. Check out one of our favorites below (feel free to ‘join the chorus’)…
Do you have a favorite Quilting Carol? Let us know!
